Information

'The Wind-Cube House' is part of a serie of pieces in the cultural landscape of Paasdorf. The work is made out of steel plates. It's form and installation were determined by the wind and by the specific conditions of the terrain.

The little story of the Wind-Cube House and the cube-cover, a short sequence of scenes, was translated into the language of sculpture. The work's final form and installation were determined by the wind and by the specific conditions of the terrain so that, in the end, the mathematical calculation of the steel-plate work finds itself confronted with the landscape: "An object, one which is exactly defined in terms of space, rolls down a hill. The movement starts at the one end of the field; it ends on the other side of the hill, and the cube stops, and remains in its position," is how Eva Afuhs describes the development. Speaking of the "snapshot of a moment, capturing the intersection of two movements," she states, "the place of stopping, which is determined by me, is connected in space with the surface of the field. By 'rolling' the cube-cover folds up." The cover still forms an open cube, the action is finished. Theoretically it could be folded out again so that our little outdoor story never ends. Against the work's static nature (and heaviness), the elemental force of the wind ensures a mental mobility which in turn connects it to the location and to the landscape.
