Information

A fountain made of concrete and steel rises sharply in front of the district administration building in Baden, a town that owes its name to the healing properties of its water, and breaks off at a height of 14 metres. At night it becomes a light sculpture with 60 fluorescent tubes providing blue and green.

Baden is a town that derives its name from the curative power of water. What could be more appropriate than to place a landmark that refers here to precisely this element? A fountain – surprisingly it emerges from the ground, rises up steeply and breaks at a height of 14 meters so as to fall back to the ground in two arches in response to the force of gravity. The Fontäne is an enormous, two-leafed object. It has a day and night side. At night it becomes a light sculpture, dissolving into body that radiates in the colors of the water. 60 neon bulbs in blue and green lead the eye up the step-like path, shimmering and radiating in a different way from each side. The darker, higher part supports the front side bathed in light like a backbone. You have to walk around this Fontäne, to approach it and to walk away from it to be able to experience this constantly changing interplay of light and form. The darker the room, the more transparently the sculpture radiates. Evelyne Egerer works with space, space in its urban, architectural and material extension, but mainly with space charged with fantasies.
